Frequently Asked Questions

Can I benefit from doula support if I'm having an epidural or planned/unplanned c-section?

Many people think doulas are only for unmedicated or home births—but the truth is, doulas provide valuable support in all types of births, including those with epidurals or planned/unplanned cesareans.

Whether your birth is straightforward or medically complex, having a doula ensures you receive continuous, personalized support when it matters most. Even with pain relief, birth can feel overwhelming. As a doula, I offer reassurance, a calm presence, and emotional encouragement. I want to help communicate your preferences and ensure you're heard in the room. I guide gentle movement and optimal positioning, even just in bed, to support baby’s descent and labor progress.

For a c-section, I help you prepare mentally and emotionally, explaining what to expect and easing anxiety. If allowed, I'll stay with you and your partner in the OR or right outside, ready to support emotionally. I'll offer guidance on initial bonding, skin-to-skin, and early breastfeeding support even in recovery. After birth, I'm there to help you emotionally process the experience and transition into postpartum.

No matter how your baby is born, as a doula, I ensure that you’re supported, empowered, and never alone.

Because every birth deserves care, compassion, and connection.

How can I feel supported during my low intervention birth?

Planning a low-intervention birth doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. In fact, having a doula by your side can make all the difference. As your doula, I’m there to support you through each stage of labor with hands-on comfort measures like massage, counter-pressure, and position changes that help labor progress naturally. I’ll help create a calming environment, remind you to breathe and rest when you need it, and offer continuous encouragement when things get intense. If you have a partner, I’ll guide them in ways to support you too—whether that means offering comfort, taking breaks, or simply feeling more confident in their role. I’ll also help you communicate your preferences with your care team and gently advocate for the birth experience you’ve envisioned. With personalized support and a steady presence, I’ll be right there to help you stay grounded, strong, and fully supported during your low-intervention birth.

Are you a certified doula?

I am doula trained and am working on two certifications through DONA International and Ujima Maternity Network.

Can I have both doula and birth photography services?

Yes, you can! One service will definitely be prioritized over the other because it's impossible for me to give 100% of my normal service expectation to both doula support and birth photography, so as the client, you would have to decide which service you wanted prioritized. Would you prefer a doula who took photos? Or a photographer who helped give birth support? Think about the baby being delivered: Would you rather the physical/emotional support at the forefront of your care while pushing/delivering, or photos of your baby/you and your partner at delivery? That's up to you!

Does having a doula replace my spouse/partner?

A doula doesn’t replace your partner or spouse during labor—instead, we work together to form a supportive team. While your partner offers love, familiarity, and emotional connection, I bring experience, a calm presence, and practical tools to help both of you feel more confident and supported. I can guide your partner in comfort techniques, suggest ways they can stay involved, and provide reassurance along the way. This allows your partner to be present and connected without the pressure of knowing exactly what to do next. Together, we create a space where you both feel informed, encouraged, and cared for throughout the entire birthing experience.
