My Story
I've loved babies and birth, ever since I can remember. I was obsessed with TLC's A Baby Story as a kid and that love and appreciation for birth carried into my own birth experiences. I had my first child in 2016 at home and that opened up world I didn't even know existed. I went on to have two more children in birth centers, (should've had them at home too -- lived in an apartment and didn't know any better) with all of my births being natural water births. BEST. EVER.
I knew after my first I had a desire to pursue midwifery at some point but assumed it would be when my children were all grown and out of the house. To stay near "birthy things" I became a birth photographer, placenta encapsulator, certified doula, and certified breastfeeding counselor. I loved (and still love!) serving families in those areas, but midwifery just couldn't escape my mind. I decided to reach out to a respected midwife to ask if she'd be open to taking me in as a student any time in the future -- assuming she'd say, "Yeah, next year," or something like that. Except she said, "Yes, I'm actually really busy, can you start Wednesday??"
That was a shock and a confirmation to me I was supposed to do it. I was so scared and hoping I wasn't rushing it, and I felt calmed by her response that said, "If it's meant to be, the Lord will open the doors and it'll happen." No pressure, just trust in the Lord. (Okay, God. I hear you.) It's been made obvious numerous times how God's hand has been on all aspects of my midwifery apprenticeship since the beginning.
I'm in phase three of four in my journey to become a licensed midwife (CPM) and I look forward to serving mamas and their families in the coming years around my community!
